The Bakersfield College men's track and field team placed second at the Western State Conference Finals on April 23 with 144 1/2 points, behind conference leader Moorpark, which had 219 points. Robert Gomez won the 400-meter hurdles in a time of 54.34 seconds after dropping the 400 to run in the event.
After getting off to a slow start, the Bakersfield College men's golf team has climbed its way into fourth place (23-19) in the Western State Conference, one match behind Ventura. They are now in contention to qualify for a team spot in the regionals going into the conference championship at Alisaw Country Club in Solvang on April 25.
Bakersfield College got offensive on April 21 as they tallied up 11 runs on 15 hits, beating College of the Canyons 11-4 and improving to 20-14 (13-7 WSC) on the season. Seven of the nine BC players in the starting lineup had multi-hit games. Sophomore right-hander Erich Schanz of the Renegades pitched 5 2/3 innings, giving up four runs on eight hits with five strikeouts and three walks.
