M.E.Ch.A. kicked off May by celebrating Cinco de Mayo at Bakersfield College May 1 and 2.
Festivities at the two-day event included the band Mariachi San Marcos performing on campus for students.
Horses pranced in the free speech area as part of the celebration.
Carlos Verlas performed lasso tricks for the crowd of BC students and faculty. Later, singers performed with Mariachi San Marcos in the Campus Center.
The holiday dates from May 5, 1862 when Mexico defeated the French army.
Cinco de Mayo celebrates that historic victory.
Festivities at BC are expected to continue throughout the month.
