Three hangouts' characteristics attract BC students

There are three main hangouts at Bakersfield College that students seem to flock to: The game room, the Campus Center and the rock in front of the Campus Center.
The Campus Center, located alongside the cafeteria and the Student Services building, is a home away from home where students can relax and unwind after a busy day of classes. Student Christine Hernandez said she goes to the Campus Center because "it has shade, it's a place where I can relax and just talk."
Stephany Sandoval also explained that she liked to hang out in the Campus Center.
"It's not loud," said Sandoval. "I come after I'm done with my classes." Hernandez also said that sometimes she does homework in the Campus Center outside on the tables, but mostly she just converses with friends.
Another campus hangout for BC students is the game room, located alongside the inside of the cafeteria, near the Language Arts building.
Many students find themselves drifting into the game room, attracted to its many features. The game room consists of video games, chess tables, computers, a pool table and usually has some sort of music playing while students play games and socialize.
Student Joshua Villarruel explained that he goes to the game room between classes about twice a week. "In between classes I do homework in the library, then to take my mind off of homework, I go to the game room," he said. Villarruel spends his between class time playing chess with other students and also socializing.
One of the most popular hangouts on campus seems to be the rock. Located in the middle of campus in the quad, the rock is surrounded by benches and is a close walk to many different classes on campus.
BC football player Ladarius White said that the rock is where everyone goes in-between classes. "It's the chillin' spot." BC football player Greg Williams also said that the rock is a popular hangout, especially for BC athletes. "Mostly everyone over here is an athlete," said Williams. White explained that the rock is where everyone has fun, "People laugh, listen to music and joke around."
