Sweats and hoodies turn the BC sidewalks into the runway
February 7, 2007
Hoodies and sweats seem to be the trend for the Bakersfield College student body this season.
The cold weather has students wearing clothes that provide warmth while being fashionable as well.
Some popular trends for men this season are hoodies and T-shirts with multiple patterns and colors on them. Patterns include monkeys, teddy bears, stars and food items in various colors from bright pinks, oranges, and reds.
BC student, Derrick Jones, says he wears the hoodies because “they’re in, and I want to stay up on new fashion, plus they’re warm and comfortable.”
Sophomore Manuel Rodriguez says he wears the hoodies because “they reflect my image of hip-hop style, which is a lifestyle I live,” as he wears a South Pole hoodie with multiple images on it.
The new hip-hop hoodies can be found online at Dr.Jays.com or locally at the Mercado Latino or The Chester Outlet and range in prices from $40-$60 at most stores.
A popular favorite for women on campus are the colorful sweats and hoodies from the Victoria’s Secret “Pink” collection.
This collection features sleepwear, which doubles as loungewear, and seems to work well for women in college.
“You can just throw on some sweats and a hoodie, be comfortable, and still look cute!” said BC student Lovell Celestino.
The “Pink” collection is designed for women on the go, designed to be fun and comfortable. There are no color rules or regulations with this line as they feature sweats, hoodies and t-shirts in color combinations of orange and blue, pink and green, yellow and light blue, and white and pink, to name a few.
“Pink” can be layered or worn alone and often features a dog as the symbol of the signature brand.
The “Pink” line can be found at most Victoria’s Secret stores nationwide as well as online at VictoriasSecret.com or through the Victoria’s Secret catalog. The prices for the sweats range from $28.50-$68 and the hoodies $44.50-$58.
It seems as though some men and women at BC know how to be fashionable while keeping warm this spring semester. With hip-hop hoodies and colorful sweats, you can never go wrong this winter.
