Bakersfield College’s baseball team is pitching out an encouraging season with 8 wins to 5 losses.
The team’s enduring strength, according to Coach Tim Painton, is the team’s pitchers.
The team has four strong pitchers this season. “You can’t win without good pitching,” Painton said. “The guy on the mound dictates the game.”
With a force that includes 18 freshmen, the team is ready to take on their greatest rivals LA Pierce and College of the Canyons, Painton said.
However, the team is not in conference yet, Painton said. Painton said the team expects improvement each weekend.
The team won against Oxnard 7-5 in Santa Maria Fri., Feb. 16, but they lost to Allan Hancock 7-8 in Santa Maria Sat., Feb. 17. However, the team destroyed Cuesta 7-2 in San Luis Obispo Sat., Feb. 17.
Sophomore Jayson Swen has an ERA of 1.29 in 14 innings pitched.
Sophomore Nathan Albert has an ERA of 1.64 and has pitched 22 innings. Sophomore Noe Flores has a batting average of .325 with three home runs and 14 RBI, and sophomore Juan Martinez has a batting average of .395.
