Football head coach Jeff Chudy announced on Friday that freshman quarterback Brian Burrell would start in the season opener next Saturday after an impressive showing in the team’s second and final scrimmage.
Burrell passed for 191 yards completing 60 percent of his passes while facing the first-team defense for the near-entirety of the scrimmage.
The majority of the offense is still in doubt in terms of who will start in the season opener, and it is likely that the team will not have a clear-cut number-one running back. Sophomore wide receiver Brandon Hobdy is expected to be the team’s number-one wide out come the season opener.
Chudy will lead his team into the first game of the season on Friday September 2 at 7 p.m. at Memorial Stadium.
