This newspaper is the result of a three-week crash course in journalism.
Now in its 17th year, the Multicultural Summer Journalism Workshop class is co-sponsored by The Bakersfield Californian, The Dow Jones Newspaper Fund and Bakersfield College. Printing of the newspaper itself is generously donated by Bakersfield Envelope & Printing.

The summer workshop is designed to encourage high school students from all ethnic backgrounds to consider journalism as a career.
Workshop students owe a special thanks to George Ramos, a Pulitzer Prize-winning Los Angeles Times reporter, who donated his time to work with students.
Numerous editors, reporters and photographers from The Bakersfield Californian also donated their time and expertise to work with students or advise them as guest speakers.
This workshop class especially thanks Californian Photo Editor Alex Horvath and staff photographer John Harte for presenting a photo seminar to students and mentoring them during the Blaze game. Thanks to their efforts, students were able to use digital photography equipment.
