Cathleen Wang is a Liberty High School student who will be the editor in chief of her high school newspaper next year.
She has enjoyed journalism since her freshman year.
“I like journalism because of the leadership involved,” she said.
She has a passion for music and plans to pursue it as a minor in college. She’s been taking piano for 10 years.
This summer, she is teaching piano to children, which she has done since she was in seventh grade.
She also would like to have lyrics written to the music she composes.
This 16-year-old junior was born in Fresno and moved to Bakersfield at a young age. She spends her free time volunteering as a candy striper at Mercy Southwest Hospital.
“I feel good when I do community service,” she said.
She volunteers at the hospital three hours a week.
Besides school and volunteer work, she maintains a 4.0 grade point average.
After high school, she plans on going to UCLA to major in biology because she said she likes cutting up things.
