2024 has been an amazing year for the film industry from big blockbusters like “Dune: Part Two” to smaller popular indie releases like “I Saw the TV Glow.” Though there was somewhat of a dry spell with movies and not many good releases (“Speak No Evil”), October seems to give some hope to 2024 films. So here are three releases to look forward to this upcoming month.
One of the first films worth mentioning is Jason Reitman’s upcoming “Saturday Night,” which shows the origin of one of the biggest shows in television history and depicts what happened on the first ever night they went live. The cast looks amazing from Rachel Sennott, who’s possibly one of the best female actors in recent times, to newer actor Gabriel LaBelle playing the main creator of SNL Lorne Michaels. This movie seems to be an interesting biopic on something that is so deeply rooted in American culture and is definitely worth a watch.
Another upcoming big one is the sequel to a very popular and controversial movie, “Joker: Folie à Deux.” Joker is not a movie that needs introduction from the massive culture shock it brough when it released to the important commentary it made on society. A sequel is not something most people would have expected but it seems to be a musical starring Lady Gaga as the infamous Harley Quinn. This is something nobody will want to miss.
Lastly, the movie I am most excited for is Sean Baker’s “Anora.” This is an upcoming comedy drama from Baker, who is famous for his movie “The Florida Project,” that focuses on a stripper as she falls in love with the son of a Russian oligarch and how that plays out. The movie’s titular lead Anora is played by more recent actress Mikey Madison, who has been in newer movies such as the reboot of “Scream” in 2022 to “Once Upon a Time in Hollywood,” seems to kill this role with what we see from the trailer from her stunning looks to her passion in character. The trailer for the movie was something that got me extremely excited and I believe will be a fun sexy drama.
October will definitely not disappoint for film fans this month so make sure you try to see at least one of these movies, with “Joker:Folie à Deux” opening on Oct. 4, “Saturday Night” Oct. 11 and “Anora” on Oct 18.
