In the Bakersfield College play, “The Conference of the Birds,” the cast of the birds searches for the meaning of life.
But for second grade students, the play was so much more.
For 8-year-old Ramon Ramos, it was all about the traditional chicken dance.
“I liked the chicken dance,” said second grader Ramon Ramos.
First fast, then slow, laughing and jumping around, the whole second grade participated in the chicken dance.
“The play was fun,” said second grader Angelica Vasquez. She felt the chicken dance made it more exciting.
Every year, second graders from Alicante School come to BC to watch a play.
This year the students came to watch a show about a large group of birds.
“I think it captivated the students’ imaginations. I think it was hard for them to follow the story but what a great concept to give you the secrets of life in second grade,” said Faith Rummelsburg, a second grade teacher from Alicante. “The costumes were so exquisite and colorful.”
