Aside from being the typical video game store, Gamestor hosts parties where 12-18 participants can hang out for a few hours and play video games.
Gamestor has two locations, one in the southwest at 8000 McNair Lane, Suite 103, and another located at 3000 Mall View Road inside of East Hills Mall.
Gamestor has been open for around seven years at the East Hills location and about a year and a half at the southwest location, according to store manager Thor Reese. A third location will be open by the end of the week in the northwest on Hageman and Calloway.
Tournaments are common at Gamestor. To participate, one can call any of the locations or go to their website to view the upcoming events.
“In June we had a Call of Duty tournament and around 125 people showed up,” said Reese.
Gamestor will be hosting a Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 3 tournament after the game is released sometime in November. Anybody can participate.
“I’ve seen anywhere from little kids to 60- to 70-year-old men compete,” said Reese.
Despite there being competition from corporate stores such as GameStop, Walmart, Target and others, Gamestor is a locally owned business that promotes it has better prices and a variety of services.
Gamestor has the cheapest games in town and that includes new games that can be anywhere between $2 to $4 cheaper than their competitors, according to Reese.
Scratched discs such as games, DVDs, CDs, Blu-ray, and so forth can be easily fixed for $5.
“I’ve seen games with deep scratches around the whole disc come out looking brand new after we’re done with them,” said Reese.
Gamestor also provides console repair and arcade play. Xbox 360, Wii, and PS3 are all available at $4 for one hour.
Along with tournaments, cheap prices, and service repairs, Gamestor’s two (soon to be three) locations buy, sell, and trade video games.
