“Give Big Kern” helps raise money for various nonprofits in Kern County

Give Big Kern is a community event to raise money for various nonprofits in Kern County. This year is the 3rd annual fundraising event, with over 130 organizations participating,

Non-profits and other fundraisers are encouraged to participate, along with businesses or sponsors that are available to donate.

Some organizations involved are the Alliance Against Family Violence and Sexual Assault, American Cancer Society, Bakersfield Community Theatre, Bakersfield Homeless Shelter, Bakersfield Museum of Art, Habitat for Humanity, and the Downtown Bakersfield Development Corporation to name a few.

Volunteers are also welcomed to participate with the event.

Give Big Kern has accepted advance donations through an online donation portal that opened at the start of April. Since the website opened, over $30,000 has already been raised. Those who would like to donate can also be directed to the site.

In 2016, Give Big Kern raised $176,957 in donations and 74,000 hours of volunteering, according to GiveGab, the fundraising platform associated with Give Big Kern. During the 2017 event, Marley’s Mutts and The Center for Sexuality and Gender Diversity came in first and second place for donations. Give Big Kern’s goal for 2018 is to have 2,000 people donate money or volunteer time.
