On Saturday Oct 26, the ALS Network will be hosting the 21, annual Kern County Walk & Roll to Cure ALS. Walk and Roll to Cure ALS, formally known as Walk to Defeat ALS, raises money and honors those affected by ALS and the side effects upon their bodies. By supporting the event you will be able to have fun and help support the future cure for ALS.
Amyotrophic lateral sclerosis (ALS) but also known as Lou Gehrig’s disease is a one of the many diseases that destroys the human body. The disease itself weakens the body and could lead to not only losing the ability to walk but other basic motor functions to live their daily lives. Many who are diagnosed with ALS only have two-to-five-year life expectancy. Unfortunately, there is no cure nor direct treatment for those who have ALS.
“The mission of the ALS Network is to partner with the ALS community as we drive the discovery of prevention strategies, treatments, and cures for ALS; provide access to quality care and connection; and promote initiatives to improve health outcomes,” according to the ALS Network, who is hosting the event.
The Wall and Roll to Cure ALS event is hoping to achieve their goal of reaching $50,000 that will go towards treatments and further find a cure for ALS. Even though you may or may not be able to donate, just showing up and contributing to the cause will matter more by bringing awareness to the event. All proceeds and donations benefit the mission priorities of the ALS Network.
The walk will take place at the Riverwalk Park near Stockdale Hwy. Check-in opens at 10 a.m. and the walk will start at 11 a.m. So not only will you get a good exercise by walking 1-2 miles but you also enjoy and spend time with others who also want to help Kern County’s ALS community. Don’t worry about any ticket charges, the event is free and is open to the public to come together and raise money for a good cause.
