HBCU Caravan Tour comes to BC

Historically Black Colleges and Universities recruiters toured the BC campus on Feb. 8.
Afterward, information tables were set up with brochures for students, and they were able to speak with recruiters on a one-on-one basis regarding transfer and admission procedures for various black colleges.

Alexandria Watson, a psychology student at BC, said she requested additional information to be mailed to her from Derrick Mays, director of enrollment for Lane College.
Watson said she found Lane College to be one of the most affordable private colleges, and she felt if she transferred to Lane and utilized her financial aid, work-study, and scholarships, she would spend less out of pocket money toward her education.

After speaking with Robert Lane Rene, academic recruiter for Southern University and Agricultural & Mechanical College, biology major Vanessa Taylor said that she’s “all in.”

Prior to speaking with Rene, Taylor said she had spoken to other recruiters and decided she would apply to UC Davis.

Now she is reconsidering her decision to attend Davis and is seriously considering Southern University. She said Southern University’s out of state tuition and fees are not as expensive as UC Davis, and that will be her determining factor. Southern University is located in Baton Rouge, Louisiana.
Students who were unable to attend the HBCU recruitment can contact the BC transfer department for more information.
