Bakersfield ranked among top cities for teachers

A study by Justin Saeheng was recently conducted showing Bakersfield is one of the best cities for teachers. According to a study by AdvisorSmith, 380 cities throughout America were ranked for the best largest city for teachers and Bakersfield was placed at number two.

The field of teaching is growing at a rate of 3.82 percent with over 500,000 preschool teachers, 1.6 million kindergarten teachers, 600,000 elementary school teachers and over 1.1 million high school teachers in the United States, as recorded by the Bureau of Labor Statistics.

Although Bakersfield is largely considered by many as one of the worst cities to live in, these rankings and attributes can hopefully change the way people look at this city and bring more people to visit, live, and make it their home.

The average salary of a teacher is $51,418. 3.8 million teachers of all levels were present in the United States as recorded from the Bureau of Labor Statistics and they see that number grew over the next ten years, so teaching is growing every year in almost every city in the United States. The Cost of living varies on the city, so the salary is a key part of that.

Through 2018 and 2019, more teachers have gone on strike due to poor treatment or unfair wages.

Bakersfield hosts more than 28 percent of the jobs for teachers on a per capita basis compared with the average of the United States, and the average annual salary for teachers in Bakersfield is $72,705, which is 41 percent higher than the national average, according to AdvisorSmith. The cost of living is usually at the price of $1,824 a month and should be no more than that to avoid calamity and poverty.

Bakersfield ranked eleventh place overall within the 380 cities beating out Merced, Visalia, and Modesto. When ranked in the large city category Bakersfield was runner up to El Paso Texas.
