A short-notice Zoom and in-person meeting held May 27 at the Renegade Event Center brought news that Dr. Jerry Fliger is no longer serving as president of Bakersfield College.

Kern Community College District Chancellor Dr. Steven Bloomberg made the announcement, stating that Fliger, who has been president of BC since March 2024, is “on leave.” When asked for clarification, Bloomberg said the leave is “permanent.”

District Vice Chancellor Dr. Stacy Pfluger has been appointed interim president of the college and could serve in that role for up to 18 months.
