If the state budget crisis will result in a tuition increase at community colleges, then it behooves our illustrious instructors to check the price tag on the textbooks they require for their classes.
The average cost for a textbook is at least $60.
The instructors get, for evaluation, free copies of any textbook they want from the publishers. They seem to have little regard for the price and its effect on the financial resources of students.
I had to drop a computer class because the required text was over $100, and that was for a six-week class.
I would also like to know why the BC Bookstore’s prices are, for the most part, 20 percent higher than retail stores for the same book. Isn’t the bookstore subsidized by the school?
