A new romance movie called “The Life List,” was released March 28 and is streaming on Netflix. The film stars Sofia Carson as Alex Rose, a young woman from New York whose life turned upside down after her mother passed. She was left with a list she made in her childhood and was challenged to complete everything in it in order to receive her inheritance from her mother. The film was based on Lori Nelson Spielman’s bestselling novel also titled “The Life List.” The director of the film, Adam Brooks, brought the book to life by showing the heartfelt scenes in action.
Carson has always brought genuine emotion into the films she’s had a role in like Disney’s “Descendants” and Netflix film “Purple Hearts.” The character Carson plays is eager to finish that list but also gets herself in a lot of emotional pain along the way. There is growth in her character even if the plot of the film is something that can be easily guessed.
There is a charming lawyer named Brad, played by Kyle Allen, who turns out to be Alexs’s lawyer who helps her complete the list her mother left. Her “life list” includes things like getting a tattoo, talking to her biological father, and finding

true love. Alex slowly starts thinking about the tasks she’s been completing and starts questioning her life.
Alex’s mother, played by Connie Britton, appears a lot throughout the film even though she has passed away. Alex sees her mother in DVDs she pre-recorded before she passed, and this adds to the pain Alex goes through as she grieves for her mother. They have a close relationship that only brings the power of love to light.
Some people are criticizing the film saying that it is predictable and is just like any other hallmark movie made. They say that the characters aren’t showing enough emotion and side characters don’t get enough attention throughout. Still, the film clearly brings out the themes of happiness, enjoying life, and being open.
“The Life List” is not a film with a dramatically different plot than other films, but it doesn’t have to be. Fans who enjoyed the book or who love the classic heartfelt stories will enjoy another comforting film with a meaningful message, whether it’s predictable or not.
