“The Perfect Divorce” is the latest thriller by bestselling author Jeneva Rose, released on April 15 by Blackstone Publishing, Inc. The hardcover edition has 288 pages and continues the gripping narrative begun in “The Perfect Marriage,” the first book in the “Perfect” series. The Kindle edition and audiobook are also available, but there is no paperback edition offered.
The novel opens with a documentary transcript tied to the events of the first book. Sarah Morgan, now married to her second husband, Bob Miller, discovers his infidelity and quickly files for divorce. Meanwhile, newly uncovered DNA evidence in the Kelly Summers’ murder case, from the previous book, forces the Prince William County Sheriff’s Office to reopen the investigation. This development drags Sarah back into the spotlight, making this a very messy divorce to deal with. Alongside this central plot, the story includes multiple other mysteries, adding more intrigue and depth to the narrative.
Jeneva Rose’s novel consists of four different perspectives: Sarah Morgan, Bob Miller, Sheriff Hudson, and Unknown, which is discovered later on. The unknown perspective keeps the audience on their toes, wondering who’s POV it is. While the multiple point of views was probably intended to enrich the reader’s understanding, it can sometimes feel more confusing than clarifying.
Despite being a slow burn, the novel’s short chapters make it an easy read. The story is rich in detail, especially regarding the ongoing police investigation. Nonetheless, due to a lot going on with several characters and plots involved, it can be challenging to keep track of everything as it unfolds.
The ending wraps things up in a way that makes sense, though it feels somewhat rushed, perhaps due to the quick five-month turnaround since “The Perfect Marriage.” Many readers may feel that a sequel wasn’t entirely necessary and that the original story stood better on its own.
Overall, “The Perfect Divorce” earns a solid 3.5 stars. It’s a good entry point for readers new to thrillers, but not out of this world. Still, it’s a worthwhile read for those curious to see how Sarah Morgan’s journey continues.
