Seven-year-old Jake Fortnum found a great way to celebrate his birthday.

Not only did he get to make brownies with Bakersfield College flags in them but he and his classmates were able to play in a tee-ball exhibition organized with the help of BC coaches and players.

Lynn Bumerts, who teaches first grade at St. John’s Lutheran school and also works concession during baseball home games, has been bringing her classes to BC for the past seven years.

“Kids get the feel of being out on a big field because a lot of these kids play tee-ball or baseball themselves,” Bumerts said. “They are really excited about it.”

“They love coming here. It’s just a fun experience for them to get out to see that one day they can be a part of a team like this.”
