The Bakersfield College women’s cross country team won the Western State Conference title Tuesday, with three BC women finishing in the top seven.
Brittany Grimes took the individual title with a time of 18 minutes 52 seconds on the wet 3.1-mile course. Jodi Calderon placed sixth at 20:16, and Erica Silver finished seventh at 20:18.
On Oct. 16, the team finished second at the Santa Barbara Invitational with Grimes again taking first in the individual competition with a time of 17:48, more than 30 seconds faster than the next closest finisher. Cerritos won the team competition.
The BC women will compete in the Southern California Regionals at Cuesta at noon Saturday, Nov. 6.
Men’s cross country
Giovani Perezchica won the first WSC individual title for BC since 1998, when his brother Jose won it. His time was 21:15 on the four-mile course, which helped BC place third in the overall competition. The men will also race at the SoCal Regionals at Cuesta on Nov. 6.
Soccer
The BC women lost 1-0 to Glendale on Tuesday with a late goal by Abby Castellon. Freshman goalkeeper Karla Poeschel had two saves.
The ‘Gades record is 5-5-4, and they are 3-2-2 in the Western State Conference.
The next game is against College of the Canyons at 4 p.m. today at the BC soccer field.
Volleyball
The volleyball team lost all three games of its home match against College of the Canyons, 30-23, 30-23, 30-21, on Tuesday.
Doneice Woody contributed with eight kills and 11 digs. Sophomores Toni Alvarez and Jill Riddle also had eight kills each.
The loss brings the team’s overall record to 7-6 and 2-4 in the Western State Conference.
The ‘Gades next match is at Citrus College at 7 p.m. today, and the next home match is at 7 p.m. Tuesday against Pierce.
