Women’s Basketball falls to the Antelope Valley Marauders

The Bakersfield College Women’s Basketball team faced the Antelope Valley College Marauders (AVC) on Feb. 12. The BC Renegades were able to start off strong, but fell short at the end losing 73-66.

The first quarter was a three-point shootout. The biggest lead was held by the Gades with 12, but was short lived as the Marauders went on a scoring streak to close the gap by 6 to end the first quarter.

For the first half of the second quarter, AVC was able to stop the Renegades leaving them scoreless for the first five and a half minutes. Once BC made their first shot, they could not be stopped going on a 14-3 scoring run to end the half 37-26, BC up.

After the half, it was a back and forth game, up until the fourth quarter when the AVC Marauders hit back to back threes and forcing BC to turn the ball over to take the lead. Both teams pushed the tempo as the time on the clock was expiring.

The Renegades lost the lead giving up points to turnovers and free throws. They were unable to create a scoring run to lead in the final half of the fourth quarter. BC fell behind with a seven-point deficit to end the game.

Both Dasia Wandick (15) and Brianna Green (31) lead the team with 15 points each. Wandick added to her box score with eight rebounds and two assists. Green was able to grab six boards and dish out three assists.

The Renegades fell 10-15 overall and 4-7 in the conference with the loss to the AVC Marauders.
