On Feb 13, the Los Angeles Rams hosted the Cincinnati Bengals with the Lombardi Trophy on the line. This game would be the finale of an incredible 2021-22 NFL, which saw everything from players running off the field mid game, new superstars being recognized, and the ending to the career of the greatest athlete to ever play football. The Cincinnati Bengals lead by Joe Burrow were one win away from hoisting the Lombardi Trophy, committing the heist of the century because nobody outside of Ohio believed that they had a prayer of winning the Superbowl six months ago. All that stood in Cincy’s way were the Los Angeles Rams. The Rams were the powerhouse of the west, the powerhouse of the NFC whose goal all year was to bring another championship to Los Angeles.  The city of Cincinnati hadn’t seen a sports team win a championship since the Reds in 1990, but L.A. had grown accustomed to the taste of victory with both The Dodgers, and Lakers winning championships less than 2 years ago. After an opening speech by Dwayne ‘The Rock’ Johnson the time for talk was over. The Bengals had won the opening coin toss and chose to defer the opening kickoff. Both teams have 3 and out drives, but not after much longer the Rams would score a touchdown when Matt Stafford would hit Odell Beckham Jr. with a pass that would open the game up giving them a 7-0 lead. The Bengals would respond with a field goal, ending the first quarter at 7-3. Then in the second both teams would have scored a touchdown, but the Rams would botch a PAT only giving the six. Going into the half the score was 13-10 with the Rams still leading.  Then in the third quarter as the L.A. sun was setting is when the game started to head south for the Rams. As Matt Stafford threw an interception early on in their drive, and gave up 10 points, and were only able to score 3 three. Going into the fourth, the Bengals had the lead 20-16. The fourth quarter is where the Rams defense with stars like Aaron Donald, Von Miller, and Jalen Ramsey proved why they were the best defenses in the league. L.A. did not give up a single point, and neither did the Bengals until late in the game Matt Stafford saw receiver Cooper Kupp on the right side of the endzone and connected with him for a clutch touchdown placing the Rams on top 23-20. All L.A. needed now was a stop on Defense and they would be the world champions.  With their last possession, Joe Burrow would drive for about 25 yards, but on a 4th and one play with 45 seconds remaining the Rams defensive line would cave in, and under the pressure from Donald would throw an incompletion giving the Rams the football with the lead, and 39 seconds left. Matt Stafford took a knee on the final play, and the game clock hit all zeros, but Cincinnati’s clock struck midnight as their Cinderella story was over. This win gave L.A. their third title in 2 years, placing Matt Stafford in a hall with L.A. greats like Kobe, Kershaw, and Magic.
