BC Renegade’s had their season opening game on Sept.7th at home against Golden West. It was first responder’s night filled with many fans in the stands.
The Renegade stroked first with a touchdown in the first quarter. The opposing team Golden West did not waste any time with their play. Into the second quarter the Renegade’s scored within 7 seconds with a missed extra point. The Renegades are back to defending and responded with an interception. Golden West ended up scoring before halftime leaving the score at 17-13. Renegades were down at halftime.
There was halftime entertainment which included a friendly competition racing from one end zone to the other. Followed with a performance by our own BC cheer team.
The teams returned to the field and the third quarter started. When the Renegade’s gained possession in the third quarter an interception was thrown. There was also one thrown in the first half. Nothing was scored in the third quarter.
The Renegades lost possession and resulted in a fumble and Golden West recovered the ball. The Renegade’s scored in the fourth quarter led down by five. With a score of 24-19 Golden West responded back with a field goal making the Renegade’s down by eight. With less than 2 minutes in the last quarter the Renegade’s scored a touchdown. The Renegade’s went for kick for their extra point, the refs called a flag making Renegade’s further from their endzone. The Fans did not agree with the call and fans started chanting, “Refs you suck.” Leaving the Renegade’s to go for a 2-point conversion to tie the game but was not successful.
The Renegade’s went for an onside kick and Golden West ended up recovering the ball. This left Golden West with the ball leaving them to take a knee to waste the final two minutes that were left on the clock. The Renegades were left devastated with their first loss of the season that happened to be at home, with a final score of 27-25. When the game was finished the quarterback, Malakhi Statler, had this to say about their first game, “it’s a team sport, as soon as you play for yourself, things start to spiral.” Their next game is Sept.14 away against Long Beach.
