When you meet 17-year-old Ashley Owens, you think she is a nice, quiet person. But as you get to know her, you realize that she is anything but quiet.
“I’m crazy,” Owens said. “I can tell you that much. I’m always jumping down the hall, singing or dancing. People think I’m quiet, but when they get to know me, I’m crazy.”
The Bakersfield High School senior enjoys acting, forensics, dance and journalism.
Owens has lived in Georgia, Sacramento, Madera and Bakersfield, with her favorite being Sacramento.
She doesn’t think much of Bakersfield.
“It sucks,” she said. “It seems kind of closed-minded and small. At the same time, it is a good place to raise family.”
If she could change one thing about herself, it would be that she would open up to people.
“I’ve missed out on opportunities to get to know people,” she said.
She advised other students not to miss out on the fun events in high school.
“High school is what you make of it, what you put into it,” she said. “Just have fun.”
