Tehachapi High School senior Ian Hamilton is not your typical teen. With his straight stature and solemn face he appears to be withdrawn, but that is not the case.
“Don’t go by first impressions because they are usually wrong, especially with me,” he said.
The 16-year-old joined the journalism workshop to better his skills as a journalist, but also to do one of his favorite pastimes, writing.
“I want to learn more about newspapers. I want to excel to be the head editor at my school,” he said. “I like the newspaper because I like writing. It allows me to express myself.”
Although journalism is is one of his favorite hobbies, he also enjoys the Space Settlement Design Club. During the year a group of 12 people work together to create a space station, complete with a 40-page report.
This year Hamilton and his team won the preliminary round of the International Space Design Competition, and will be going to the final round in July.
After high school, he hopes to move in with his older brother Russ in Texas and attend a college near there.
