Monique Simpson is a 17-year-old graduate of Foothill High School. Simpson has lived in Bakersfield all of her life.
She has three brothers, one older and two younger.
“I like Bakersfield but I do not like the justice system,” she said. “I don’t like the justice system because they use anything they can to put people in jail.”
Simpson said she joined the workshop so she can learn how to write better and she was interested in journalism. She likes to spend her spare time with her boyfriend, Keiwaun.
She said the best thing about high school was her English class. When asked what the worst thing was, she giggled and said, “My math class.”
Simpson wants to study sociology and law but she is interested in becoming a social worker.
