Sixteen-year-old Sonya Nicole Patterson-Byrd, or Nikki, as she likes to be called, is ambitious about the many goals she wants to accomplish.
“After I graduate high school, I want to go to Multnomah Bible College in Portland, Oregon, and major in journalism and minor in youth ministries,” she said. “I would like to graduate early by two or three years. While there, I’ll work at the local newspaper, a small paper.”
Besides her college plans, the South High School senior looks forward to being an administrator for a traveling youth group. She’ll continue her writing while traveling, covering national issues, as well as publishing plays.
In her spare time, she enjoys writing, reading and watching an occasional romance movie. She briefly recaps “A Walk to Remember,” citing how much she enjoys Mandy Moore. She later professes her love for actor Johnny Depp, who was not in “A Walk to Remember,” but whom she said should be mentioned while the focus is on romance.
“His girlfriend dies … I’ll be in France at the time and be a nanny to his two kids, and he’ll fall in love with me,” she said of her Depp fantasy.
The most significant thing Byrd learned is that the imagination sucks because it destroys so much. “My imagination drives me crazy.”
“I also learned just because something seems ruined, doesn’t mean it is because it may not be alright, but I’m still OK,” Byrd said, referring to a Good Charlotte lyric.
