Weak Hero Class released their second season Class 2 on Netflix on April 25. Weak Hero Class 2 follows Yoon Si-Eun (Park Ji-Hoon) as he transfers school to Eunjang High School trying to leave behind his past at his previous school. Weak Hero Class 2, an action thriller drama, is directed by Park Dhan-Hee and Yoo Su-Min, the screenwriter and director, has 8 episodes running from 40 to 60 minutes each. The show is based on a webcomic released in 2018 named “Yakhanyoungwoong” by Seo Pae-Seu and illustrated by Kim Jin-Seok.
In Class 1, Yoon Si-Eun, a model student, finds himself getting picked on by a group of bullies. After confronting them Yoon Si-Eun gains friendship with Ahn Su-Ho (Choi Hyun-Wook) and Oh Beom-Seok (Hong Kyung). After a serious fight between Ahn Su-Ho and Oh Beom-Seok, Su-Ho is left in a coma.
Class 2 opens with Yoon Si-Eun having nightmares about the past situation and being left with trauma. In his new school he meets Seo Jun-Tae (Choi Min-Yeong), Ko Hyun-Tak (Lee Min-Jae), and Park Hu-Min (Ryeoun). Despite being cold towards them in the beginning he later becomes friends with them. Throughout the show they’re met by a group named Union ran by Na Beak-Jin (Bae Na-Ra) and are forced to fight against them for survival.
The show is violent and touches on serious topics such as drugs, sextual harassment and bullying. With the show focusing on fighting the camera work is done well. The angles and shots throughout the fighting scenes catch the action well without losing the illusion. One scene that was done very well was a scene where multiple students are in a field with umbrellas in the rain. The umbrellas in the scene help emphasize the number of students present and add to the otherwise plain setting.
The acting is also great and consistent between both seasons. With Class 2 the humor is a bit more present compared to Class 1. While Class 1 did have humor it was more subtle. Park Ji-Hoon does a great job in showing the emotions Yoon Si-Eun goes through. He acts a lot with his eyes which really tell a story of their own. His eyes are even mentioned in the show with a few side comments from the characters.
Despite the violent nature of the show, it is a good and entertaining watch. For fans of K-dramas or anyone looking for something new to watch and doesn’t mind violence, Weak Hero Class could be an interesting show to add to your list.
