Kaira Saunders broke a 35-year-old Bakersfield College track and field record in the 200-meter dash April 17 during the Western State Conference preliminaries in Ventura. Saunders ran the 200 in a time of 24.78 seconds. That beat the old record form 1980 held by Thea Parrish, which was 24.94. Saunders also took first in the 100 with a time of 12.11 seconds. Bakersfield College women dominated at the Antelope Valley College All Comer Meet on Jan. 31. There were 16 events at the meet and the BC women won 13 of them. The Bakersfield College women’s track and field team placed fourth out of nine teams during the Battle of Regions that took place Feb. 14 at Memorial Stadium. The Bakersfield College men’s and women’s track and field teams each took second place in an invitational meet involving Western State Conference teams March 1 at Ventura College.
