More than 25 colleges and universities came out to Transfer Day, held at Bakersfield on Sept. 8.
Representatives from colleges all over California had brochures, pamphlets and boards set up to give students an idea of what to expect from their schools and their expectations of the students. Among these schools were UCLA, Cal State Bakersfield, UC Santa Cruz and Cal State Fullerton.
Professor and new transfer counselor Sue Granger-Dickson was just as excited as the students about Transfer Day. She explained that she loves encouraging students to prepare for transferring to a four-year college or university to broaden their horizons and help them reach their goals.
To further assist students in their transfers, many workshops on admissions, financial aid and scholarships, available in both English and Spanish, were held. More workshops are scheduled to be held in October and November to help students with the applications process as well, which is generally filed one year in advance to set future plans.
Also held that same night was College Night, which helped raise awareness of the importance of education, at the Rabobank Convention Center.
There, students ranging from junior high to college joined workshops to give them ideas of what colleges may be right for them as well as the requirements needed to enroll in those schools.
Also discussed was the transfer assistance that Bakersfield College can offer to present and future students.
