The Sigma Chi Eta club has been active at Bakersfield College since last fall, and their goal is to get every member of the club into the Lambda Pi Eta organization once ready for transfer.
Lambda Pi Eta is the official honor society of the National Communications Association at four-year universities.
The Sigma Chi Eta club is the National Honor Society for two-year communication programs at community college level. Any students who are interested in developing communication skills but not necessarily interested in a major are welcomed to join the club at BC.
The membership requirements are a 3.0 cumulative GPA with 12 semester units or a 3.25 GPA for communication studies courses with 9 semester units.
Considering that communication skills are vital to a student’s every day life the Sigma Chi Eta club can help enhance these skills, according to the president of the club, Reg Lant, communication major.
When joining the Sigma Chi Eta club, students will get an opportunity to not only be a part of an academic club, but they will also be encouraged to focus on “what can be done for the community,” said Lant.
Club members will also be given an honor cord that represents the club and will be worn at graduation.
Club meetings are held every second and fourth week of the month on Wednesdays at 3 p.m. at FA51.
