Texting has become an important way to communicate and, for some, the only way.
Business major Kevin Layton, 24, said, “I text every day all throughout the day. It’s the only way I talk to my friends.” The reason is because he hates talking on the phone and he added it is just easier.
Amber Rizo, 19, undeclared, agreed with Layton that texting people is often easier than picking up the phone. “Why I text is because it is not as weird as talking on the phone to someone I like.”
Texting is not just a way of life for teenagers and young adults anymore.
Psychology major John Parker, 20, said, “Yes, I text all the time it really doesn’t matter where I’m at. My parents who are 50 even text now.” He said they are not sending text messages as much as him but it helps get information quickly to them.
Shannon Jackson, 55, undeclared, said she loves texting. “It’s a fun way to communicate, but I’m not addicted to it,” she said.
Jackson picked up texting to stay connected to her daughter away at college.
“I would like for my daughter to call, but all I get is a text,” Jackson said. “I think sending text messages is an age thing.”
Jackson added that young people only know how to text. “I guess it works for them but at least I can pick up the phone when needed,” she said.
