Religion has never been to appealing to me. Even as a young girl I remember sitting through Mass, questioning the priest and the word of God.
I never understood why we have to live as Jesus lived. I’m not Jesus, and I wouldn’t want to even try to live like him. I don’t believe in a God, and I don’t believe that Jesus was the Son of God either.
Does that make me a bad person?
I don’t go around stealing or killing; I help the poor and honor my mother. What I don’t do is identify myself with a God, or the product of a God. If anything I go with the label of Atheistic Satanist, also known as Modern Satanist.
Now relax. I’m not going to go sacrifice a cow or anything for that matter. Basically, I believe that if someone slaps you; slap him or her back. Respect those who deserve and gain your respect. Don’t go around loving everyone because “Jesus loves all.” If you use something too freely, it will lose its true meaning. I’m all for people getting along and such, but loving everyone? That is over idealistic and impossible.
Another thing is that religion is so outdated. For example, the Catholic Church is against the use of condoms during sexual relationships between couples, even if they are married. Condoms are meant to protect people against STDs and unplanned children. The Church says condoms prevent a life from being created, and that is a sin. However, I believe that bringing an unwanted child into the world is a far greater sin than preventing the child to suffer from things such as poverty, hunger, disease and possible abuse and neglect on all levels.?Another thing that turns me off in regard to religion is that it has been one of the major causes of bloodshed throughout the history of man.
Christians were persecuted, and then became the persecutors. Jews are always getting slaughtered and traditional Muslims are out to conquer the world and lead mankind “on the right path.”
And let’s not forget the branching out of these major religions that lead to more bloodshed. Oh, what a tangled web we weave. Why don’t we all just agree that killing, stealing, lying and any action that can hurt a person, physically and emotionally, is wrong whether it’s called a sin or a sherk or a booboo?
Then again the idea of all of mankind putting away their differences is too idealistic and impossible.
