Andrew Stice is an average Bakersfield College student with just one minor difference. He lives in the punk rock movement.
Stice said he is tired of the harassment and discrimination he faces almost daily, and he is looking for some fair tolerance from the BC student body, or anyone whom he comes in contact with.
Stice, 19, wears his hair half painted in pink, the other half in brown. He recently had a Mohawk but changed his hairstyle by chopping it in squares, simply “just because.”
He wears military boots accompanied by his military trousers engulfed in chains all over, from his waist to the side of his body, and a hot blue “Punk Rock” jacket with rock ‘n’ roll insignias.
Stice attended and graduated from North High School in 2005. He began living the punk rock movement during his freshman year in high school.
He claims that many people make derogatory statements toward him, and another punk rocker, Eric Anderson, 21, agrees with him. “People have screamed at us, calling us ‘freaks,’ or ‘queers,’ and that is not true, or very nice,” Anderson said.
According to Stice, he has been shot at, has had death threats and has been chased several blocks. When asked by whom, he said the OPW, which stands for Oildale Pecker Woods, which he said he considered a Nazi sympathizer gang. He adds that he does not want to engage in any problems with anyone.
Stice stated that, for the most part, the teachers at BC accept him and his appearance, but he said he definitely makes an impression when he first walks into a classroom.
According to Stice, his parents hate the way he looks and despise all of his ear, nose and lip piercings. He said that he stopped using the lip ring for now. Attempts to contact Stice’s mother went unanswered.
Stice listens to psycho-billy, and rock-a-billy, a kind of 1950s rock ‘n’ roll music.
Stice is enrolled at BC learning automobile repairs, and he wishes to become a mechanic.
Anderson is enrolled at BC and majoring in criminal law, and he wishes to become a public defender someday.
Stice and Anderson share a loyal friendship and they both attended concerts in January by Love Class Brats and the Angry Samoans.
They both said that they do not use any illegal drugs, but they did in the past. However, they said they smoke and drink alcohol.
When asked how long they both will keep living this lifestyle, they simply stated, “We don’t know. We just want to be understood and accepted by our peers without any racism, discrimination or segregation.”
