The Renegade Rip was recognized by the Associated Collegiate Press (ACP) at the national College Media Convention in San Francisco on Feb. 29. The Rip placed first in the best of show two-year campus website category and fifth in the two-year campus newspaper category.

The Rip bested seven community colleges, who were also recognized in the category, including Mt. San Antonio College, an online-only student news publication.

The Rip received a trophy for placing first and a certificate for fifth place.

The ACP convention was a three-day conference that hosted seminars, workshops and keynote speakers for journalism students and their advisors. Colleges and universities from across the country gathered in San Francisco to learn from working and retired professionals.

Young journalists learned about “all aspects of college media, from rapidly changing multimedia platforms to newspaper, broadcast, yearbook and magazine journalism, as well as the revenue generation and marketing aspects of running a student media organization,” according to ACP. Students also benefitted from “career-focused sessions with guidance on life after graduation.”

Students had access to over 100 sessions and had the freedom to create their schedules to fit their needs, concerns and interests. They were also free to ask any questions about the field of journalism.
