Tehachapi radio club looking for new members.

The world of Ham Radio is slowly spreading, and the local Ham Radio Club, Tehachapi Amateur Radio Association wants to expedite it.

What is ham radio? Micah Martin, the public information officer of the club, explained that Ham radio was the first form of social media where someone can send messages, photos and connect with others. He also stated that when other forms of communication are down, like cell towers, Ham radio isn’t affected. Information can still be relayed and reached without worry.

Martin oversees the publicity for the club. He works to widen the horizons of the ham radio club and find different ways to make it a more known and talked about topic. Martin does what he does because he believes that ham radio should be a well-known device because of how interesting and helpful it can be.

He got into Ham radios when his father taught him as a young boy, and when he got older, he found this club on Facebook, leading to where he is now.

The future of Ham radio was starting to look dull to Martin since there were more older users of those radios, and most of the younger generation didn’t even understand what it was. But the Ham Radio Club have already started branching out to cub scouts and want to expand to be involved and donate in more college events and high school events. They held a booth at the Student Involvement Festival at Bakersfield College.

The Ham Radio club also wants to be more involved with the community itself, grow membership, and maybe donate radios to events.

Martin added that ham radios aren’t expensive as they are on Amazon for $20, so it’s not some financially expensive or too high-tech device. Martin demonstrated its use by showing its ability to contact someone in a different state. He insisted that it’s not complicated to use once someone is taught the basics. So, if you or someone you know is interested in exploring the world of radio, or looking for a fun side activity, Tehachapi Amateur Radio Association would love to have you.
