Super Bowl teases new releases

Superbowl Sunday brought many great things to the table from an intense game, a very entertaining halftime show, and even many celebrity cameos. One of the most important things that came from this were many new trailers for many exciting upcoming movies, most notably “Deadpool & Wolverine”, “Kingdom of Planet of the Apes”, and “Wicked”.

The trailer for the new Deadpool movie shows great promise for the future of the Marvel Cinematic Universe, considering it has noticeably been on a steady decline in recent years. One of the most exciting parts of this movie is Hugh Jackman’s return to his character Wolverine, which many fans thought that he was done with after his last movie “Logan”. The movie seems to be packed full of action, comedy, and a good time for superhero fans.

The next movie to look out for is the newest addition to the “Planet of the Apes” franchise, “Kingdom of Planet of the Apes”. Following the massive hit franchise from the 2010’s Kingdom follows the planet years into the future after the last trilogy where apes have now replaced humans as the dominant species as humans have lost most of their knowledge from the sickness in the last trilogy. This new movie follows a young ape, who is the descendant of the first ever smart ape, as he questions the reign of apes over humans and delves into the past to see how they got to where they are now and if it is right or not.

One of the most controversial movies coming is the film adaptation of the hit Broadway musical “Wicked”. Film adaptations of musicals are always very controversial as they usually turn out to butcher the original musical, but fans of the musical can only hope that this will break the mold. The movie stars Cynthia Erivo as Elphaba, Erivo has a history of singing as she starred in the Broadway version of the musical “The Color Purple”. Erivo costars with Ariana Grande as Glinda Upland, everyone knows and respects Grande as a great singer so there is only great hope from her and Erivo.

There are many movies to be excited about this year for all sorts of fans whether it’s super heroes, smart apes, or fans of witches!
