Chemistry week
Did you know that we need 29,336 lbs. of salt, 65,543 lbs. of cement and 1.55 million lbs. of stone, sand and gravel?
It’s chemistry week and there a countless interesting facts you can learn from the teacher and students of chemistry here on campus.
Go and look at the student-made posters in the chemistry building. These posters explain how chemicals are used, how medicine is made from plants and countless other facts.
Chemistry week, sponsored by the American Chemical Society, is an annual event on campus.

The BC Wind Ensemble
The Bakersfield College Wind Ensemble’s Fall concert is this Sunday, Oct. 17, at the BC Indoor Theater.
This season’s theme is “Battle Hymn.” Music from John Williams, Daniel Bukvichand and Richard Rogers will be featured. Doors open at 3:30 p.m. with the performance starting at 4 p.m. General admission is $5, student/senior tickets are $3 and children 12 and under get in free. The BC Chamber Orchestra
The Bakersfield College Chamber Orchestra is offering you “A Touch of Class” during their fall concert on Oct. 24 in the BC Indoor Theater.
The concert begins at 4 p.m. General admission in $5, student/senior tickets are $3 and children 12 and under get in free. For more information contact the Bakersfield College Ticket Office at 395-4326.
The BC Chorale Chamber Singers
On October 22, the Bakersfield College Chorale, Chamber singers and soloists will perform in “Light and Shadow,” a concert featuring music from some of chorale’s greatest composers. The performance will be held at the First Christian Church on Truxtun Avenue and S Street at 7 p.m. Tickets are $5 for students and senior citizens and $10 for general admission. Art Show
The Wylie and Mary Louise Jones Gallery will host the art exhibits “Bits and Pieces” and “Electronic Media” beginning October 28. Both exhibits will run continue through December 1. “Bits and Pieces” features the work of artists Nana Gregory, Rhonda Wilson and Margi Weir. Gallery hours are from 1 p.m. to 7 p.m. Monday through Thursday. Admission is free.
The BC Jazz Ensemble
The BC jazz Ensemble along with special guests The Michael Vlatkovich Ensemble will perform this Sunday at The Empty Space. Tickets are $5 for students and $10 for general admission.
