Bakersfield College does not only welcome new students this semester, but also new faculty.
Eighteen instructors have joined the college as full-time faculty members.
According to an announcement by William Andrews, Bakersfield College President, all the new faculty members of this institution vary from librarians to counselors to department chairs and even program directors.
The new faculty was added with the purpose of providing a better education for all of the students.
“The new faculty adds depth, creativity, and experience to our teaching staff,” said Andrews. “We are serving our students better than before.”
Nancy Mai, the new nursing teacher, said that her main purpose is “passing new information to students, especially those taking challenges in the nursing career.”
Mai was born and raised in Kansas and has worked for Kern Medical Center for the past 24 years.
Mai joined Bakersfield College as a nurse educator last August, with her main job being a Clinical Teaching Assistant, or CTA.
“I will surely stay here as long as they want me to be,” Mai stated with a smile on her face after remembering and sharing one of the first thoughts she had in the arrival at this institution, “I love it…big campus, but am I going to find everything?”
One of Mai’s accomplishments for the moment is to complete her master’s degree in 2008.
William Barnes, a graduate of South High School, is the new animal science professor.
“I am a good fit here because I love the junior college environment, especially working with students with [their] own disciplines.”
Barnes was born and also raised here in Bakersfield and still has the purpose of retiring here because he likes the city.
The other new faculty members are as follows:
Diane Allen, counselor; Nancy Blieze, nursing instructor; John “Reggie” Bolton, a health and PE instructor and coach; Edward Borgens, political science professor; John Carpenter, sociology professor; Dawn Dobie, reference librarian; Manny Fernandez, electronics and manufacturing technology instructor; Celia Noyes, fine arts professor; Christian Parker, history professor; Clark Parsons, academic development instructor; Carol Pence, nursing instructor; Sarah Posas, nursing instructor; Billie Jo Rice, psychology instructor; Ruth Ann Santee, art professor; Rene Trujillo, philosophy professor; and Maris Wagener, child development professor.
