On Aug. 14 the Bakersfield National Cemetery extended the borders of the physical cemetery to an online platform where families and friends of deceased veterans would be able to find their loved one online.

The Veterans Legacy Memorial (VLM) is a website that honors the Veterans that are memorialized in the National Cemetery Association (NCA). Veterans Legacy Memorial ensures “no Veteran ever dies” by honoring the legacy of our nation’s Veterans, not just in our cemeteries, but in a new and innovative digital setting,” said the VA secretary Robert Wilkie in a press release.

This online program started by the NCA collaborating with the VA’s Office of Information and Technology started with the information on every Veteran’s headstone and grew to contain basic information about every veteran.

In remembrance of the Veterans family members and friends are able to look up their Veteran and see their Date of Birth, Date of Death, War Period, rank, and branch. They are also able to find the cemetery where their Veteran is located and which section they are located.

In the future, the NCA may allow family members and friends to add more information to their veteran’s memorial page, such as historic photos and some memories.
