The Kern County Community College District announced Steven Bloomberg as the seventh official chancellor, starting March 1.

After an extensive search throughout the nation for a new KCCD chancellor, the search has finally ended. “This job is like a dream come true,” said Dr. Bloomberg. “I started my career at the KCCD, so being able to come back home is a special feeling. I look forward to working with everyone in our district.”

Dr. Bloomberg earned his bachelor’s in Business Administration from the University of La Verne, and his Masters in Education at West Texas A&M University. His KCCD career began in 1994 as a workforce development director at Cerro Coso Community College. His most recent position was a 5-year term as President at Southeast Arkansas College.

As chancellor, Dr. Bloomberg will oversee Bakersfield College, Cerro Coso Community College and Porterville College. His plans include expanding the workforce and education programs at Bakersfield College. With issues regarding food and security, he also plans to discuss policy issues within the district.

In a release announcing his appointment, Romeo Agbalog, current President of the KCCD Board of Trustees said,“The Kern Community College District Board has undergone a thorough process to select its next Chancellor. We are pleased to have selected a leader who understands the need to integrate a robust economic and workforce development strategy to an already successful early college, transfer, and retention program.”

At Southeast Arkansas, Dr. Bloomberg was able to increase enrollment by using demographics. Using his extensive knowledge in education, he was able to open the first phase of housing on the Southeast Arkansas campus, which he wants to do here. He wants to explore different degrees and certificates that could be added to the curriculum. “Housing, Food and Security are significant issues on our college campus. So, I will do anything I can to champion students outside of the classroom,” said Dr. Bloomberg.

With the next 5-10 years ahead of him, Dr. Bloomberg plans to bring about great change and new opportunities for current and future students.
