An open lack of information and disgust with men thinly veiled as feminism characterized the lecture given by three women’s rights activists recently at the annual Journalism Association of Community Colleges State Conference in Sacramento.
For an hour and a half, Elena Perez, Jane Harrington and Tia Koonse, all of the National Organization for Women, or NOW, traded the male-hating banter that apparently makes up the current feminist movement.
Each one of the women spouted off statistics of violence against women as gospel, but none of them seemed to have any background for the numbers. They presented an array of numbers from the U.S. Census Bureau, but when asked questions relating to their information, none of the feminists had any reasonable answers.
It is good to know that feminists, who presumably want to educate women, don’t care to have their facts straight. As long as the “fact” supports their views, it can stand on its own feet.
The women who call themselves feminists don’t seem to know exactly what they stand for. They all think we are still in the early 1900s, literally fighting in the streets for civil rights.
Look around. It is 2002. Women are in the workplace, in the home and even in politics. They are doing what they choose to do with their lives.
Feminists are obsessed with the idea that women are not receiving their fair share in a male-dominated world.
They spend millions of dollars pushing for vocabulary to be changed so it will please their own thwarted idea of the woman-hating world.
Feminists then argue that women are not receiving equal pay or equal treatment. That might hold up, except there are laws on the books that require employers to pay their employees what they earn and never discriminate based on gender. If they do, that woman can take them to court, and shockingly enough, win. Laws protect women. They also protect minorities.
Immeasurable strides have been taken by our country to appease women. An entire month of history was named after them in hopes of helping feminists realize they are not overlooked. America cannot continue to pay for a crime committed years ago.
Our country is so busy trying to make women feel better it has overlooked the discrimination of men.
Honestly, if a feminist is hiring for a job, is that woman, even with all her equality mumbo-jumbo, going to hire a man over a woman? Of course not. Now that is discrimination based on gender, by the one person who should understand.
Every group in America has been discriminated against at one point in our history. Women are just crying about it longer and louder than anyone else.
Sure there will be rapes and hate crimes based on gender, and that is not right. But we should focus on finding and punishing those people rather than planning a women’s march.
Feminists are boldly blazing trails that have already been blazed. We should remember and revere those who fought for the vote, not try to take their victories away from them.
