With Valentine’s Day approaching, the East Bakersfield community at Brundage Swap Meet hosted their 2nd annual stand-up comedy show. The event was promoted as a competition and the winner who had the best jokes of the day would receive a cash prize.

This open mic allowed for anyone above the age of 16 with natural comedian talent a chance to share family friendly jokes. Although the stand-up comedy was the main focus of the event, they had multiple local businesses to come and bring the fun as well. They had a Mexican food truck, horse riding, and a coloring station for younger children.

The event started at 11a.m. on 2207 Brundage Ln and ended at 3pm. It was heartwarming to see the community come together and support one another with laughter and cheer. February is known as the month of love and seeing people coming together to love one another was awesome to be a part of.

The event was put on and hosted by “Love from Above”, a local small business. They specialize in hosting, promotions, DJing, and even providing food services. Their desire is to serve the community through local business, community awareness, and community outreach.

Most importantly the event featured some hilarious comics that rocked the stage. This included men and women who had previously done stand up as well as First timers. Even ladies as old as 70 were hitting the stage and making the audience laugh.

Overall, the event was a very joyful experience to be a part of, and it seemed as if much of the East side community of Bakersfield had come out to support. Hopefully the event will continue next year and grow larger as the years roll on.
