A new chicken spot has come to town and Bakersfield is feeling the burn.

Civilians, students, and chicken enthusiasts gather as Houston TX chicken opened its doors om Oct. 23, and it might be the spiciest yet.

They offer juicy chicken sandwiches with southern personality as big as its patties, crunchy golden fries, dreamy ice cream, and enough Scoville to make this site a definite hotspot for Bakersfield college students.

Patrons can get their chicken in no spice, Honey Butter, Mild, Medium, Spicy, or Lift Off. But if you are brave enough, patrons can also sign a waiver to get the Houston, We Have a Problem. This dry rub fried sandwich contains two million Scoville bound to set your tongue on fire.

Ordering the home favorite meal, a classic meal, one regular 20oz blueberry lavender lemonade, and a regular 20oz Mondi milk shake added up to $50.39 with tax, an absolute cluck ton. However, it is worth it.

The home favorite comes with one chicken sandwich topped with coleslaw, pickles, and Houston Tx secret sauce, crispy crinkle seasoned fries, and an extra decadent tender. This comes up to $15.99 not including tax or drink.

The sandwich, ordered in spicy seasoning, gives a kick to the senses while the coleslaw is a gentle kiss leaving a waltz of flavor. The pillowy sweet brioche and the zesty pickle give it a punch making this sandwich a greasy two thumbs up.

The Original Hot Chicken sandwich meal comes with one chicken sandwich topped with coleslaw, secret sauce, and pickles then served with fries and comes up to $13.99, not including tax.

This sandwich, ordered in mild, is a great way for those who may not like spice to get into the action. It mixes with the coleslaw for a one-way ticket to flavor town. Adding an extra house-fresh cheese sauce on the side took it to the next level, adding a creamy richness to an already heavenly sandwich.

The blueberry lavender lemonade quickly became a crowd favorite.

“It’s so f-Ing good. It’s not too sweet but sweet and tart balance with a burst of flavor that pairs nicely with the chicken. It doesn’t taste like I just bit a chunk out of a garden, it’s like floral without trying too hard,” said Adrian Madero a patron of Houston TX chicken.

Other combinations that are offered include strawberry hibiscus and cucumber watermelon. Lemonades start at just 3.99 for their 20oz, or, for 2 dollars more, you can upgrade to 32oz of cold refreshing lemonade. For an extra dollar you can get your chill on by making it a slushy.

You can also wash this sandwich down with one of their six milkshakes. Flavors include the waffle shake which is $7.50, cookie crumble starting at $8.99, the Mondi starting at $5.99, or vanilla, chocolate, and strawberry at $4.99.  The Mondi is a combination of real smooth and silky soft serve mixed with their strawberry hibiscus slushy.

This blended treat gives a nice nod to Italian soda as the strawberry hibiscus lemonade and the soft serve form a beautiful marriage. The sour lemonade gets a nice nudge of sweetness making this combo a solid way to cool down on an afternoon.
