Mokha For Good

The back of the register with traditional Yemeni tea pots and sets on the shelves.

The next time you think of trying something different try the new Yemeni coffee shop called Mokha Cafe. If you are a fan of the Middle East, you would find walls covered in Arabic

handwritten poems, hummingbirds hanging around, cultural hot drinks, and baked sweets in the café’s center. Mokha is one of the newest coffee shops located in the small shopping center on 600 Coffee Road next to the old Fruggati’s location and Nothing Bundt Cakes.

Mokha has many recommended pastries like the baklava.

The baklava, which smells like flowers, is made with phyllo dough and nuts. They also offer small bites that are very popular, with the ma’amoul being one of the more interesting ones. If you want to buy a big pack of small bites to share with your family and friends, every package starts at $50.

They also offer an array of middle eastern teas. The tea that was tried is called Adeni tea, and is made with black tea, evaporated milk, cloves, cardamom, and classic golden spiced Yemeni brew. Tea’s at16oz start at $4 while Tea’s 32oz start at $10.

Even if the place is small, you will enjoy the seats, hand-carved side tables, and couches or sofas that make you feel as if you were inside a house in Yemen. Many college students were seen coming to this cafe; most were buying matcha tea, and children with their parents were enjoying cold drinks.  Mokha Cafe looks like a coffee shop that is allows for all Middle Eastern communities to share their food and cultures with all ages. It’s a recommended spot for either studying or hanging out with friends and family.

Round mirrors with poems in Arabic.
