Shogun Review

FX puts slashes onto the scene with the new release of their already hit show historical drama “Shogun”.

“Shogun” is the newest miniseries from FX created by Rachel Kondo and Justin Marks.

The show aired on February 27 and releases weekly since then. The show stars Cosmo Jarvis as lead role John Black thorne and many other acclaimed actors.

The show is based off of a 1975 novel by James Clavell of the same name and follows main character John Blackthorne a English sailor who finds himself in 1600’s Japan in the heat of a political war. The leader of Japan, the shogun, has passed away and many people seek to fill that position on the throne.

The acting throughout the show is one of it’s best features, one of the best parts is the fact that the show is actually in Japanese in order to give the realistic effect of the time and place. The English characters and Japanese have conversations in their own languages and give the effect of a real language barrier that was common in older times.

The show is packed full of action with many visceral bloody scenes and nudity which many people seem to compare to one of the most acclaimed shows ever “Game of Thrones”. Many critics seem to believe that “Shogun” could be the next “Game of Thrones” with its themes and already huge popularity even though it just started airing.

If you are a fan of historical dramas or anything with blood and conflict then this show is definitely something you are going to want to catch up on as the episodes come out weekly so you can be caught up on whatever happens next in the war for the title of Shogun.
