Glow Bowls Açai & Boba recently opened in downtown Bakersfield earlier this year. The place, located at 1201 24th Street, is home to a variety of house açai bowls plus a mix of other dessert options.

In the shop, you have the choice of creating your personal açai bowl, as you can choose the base & toppings. The shop also serves various beverages, including fruit smoothies, iced teas, lemonades, frappes, milk tea, and iced coffee.

The dessert section is also home to mochi ice cream. Mochi ice cream is a Japanese dessert made of rice flour. Here there are seven flavors to choose from, such as matcha green tea, strawberry, cake batter, purple sweet potato, passion fruit, to go along with coconut and mango as vegan options.

Glow Bowls also has baked protein vegan oatmeal bars & muffins. The shop intends to implement a variety of new products often as owner Liz Gomez states “Each week for additional desserts they make a new protein snack.”

Their one scoop açai bowl is a well portion size, with fruits including strawberries & peaches which makes for a very refreshing snack. Glow Bowls offers one, two and three-scoop bowls. The one-scoop bowl was $7, which includes honey & granola as its base, to go along with a choice of three toppings with many options to choose from.

Mochi comes individually as a piece, costing $2 individually with the vegan options being mango & coconut. There is a unique flavor on the mango mochi compared to the coconut, which was more intense in flavor and texture.

The business has a decoration that serves as a background drop where photos can be taken, giving great vibes and a place where one can come to relax.

Gomez spoke about the inspiration behind this local business, “My inspiration came from my husband’s old business with the gym we had and had a small kitchen in place and was doing acai business and wanted health fitness.” The inspiration for the business name came from “wanting a female gym & compared to this business.”

Owner Eduardo Vigil recommends his new creation to customers, “An açai bowl with pudding, strawberries, blueberries, bananas, honey, coconut.”

As a first-time customer, I had a great experience, as there’s a relaxing vibe and the shop seems like it’s ready to showcase a nice spot to come out.

If you’re looking for a healthy choice of snack, make sure to check out Glow Bowls!
