The Bakersfield College women’s basketball team record is 2-0 after Nov. 13 withh wins against Allan Hancock 77-64 and Cuesta College 62-42.
Coach Paula Dahl said, “Both teams play completely different styles. Hancock made a run on us at the end and Cuesta played a slow style, so that took us out of the game a little, but I felt really good about the games.”
Dahl said she was especially pleased with point guard Dianna Roseburr and guard Julie Thomas, who both played tough defense on the opposition. Cuesta’s leading scorer, freshman Raleigh O’Brien, usually averages 20 points but only made nine. “So that’s always good,” said Dahl.
Dahl added the real challenge is this Nov. 18 against Santa Barbara because they have played three really good teams and have a record of 2-1. Dahl said, ” I am really excited to have a chance to see how it goes.”
As far as the first two wins and what they mean to her, Dahl said, “I’m really happy as can be, it was a fun weekend, and it’s just a really good way for us to start.”
Freshman Alexi Smith led the women’s basketball team to victory with 24 points, 14 rebounds, four blocks and five steals, and Dahl said Smith is one of the players to look out for this season. The next home games for the women’s basketball team are Nov. 18 at 6 p.m. against Santa Barbara and Nov. 21 at 5 p.m. against Reedley.
