Bakersfield College hosted the second Western State Conference meet on March 14.
The women’s team finished in first place out of five teams with a winning score of 133.
In the women’s 200-yard individual medley, Alexis Zimmerman finished first with a time of 2:23.07.
In the 100-yard freestyle, Shelby Bayne finished in first place with a 55.13 and Clarissa Gardella came in second place with a time of 57.61. Elizabeth Hargis finished first in the 100-yard backstroke with a time of 1:04.76.
The men’s swim team finished in second place out of three teams with a score of 143, with Cuesta College taking first.
Chance Marchini finished first in the men’s 100-yard fly with a time of 56.70. In the 500-yard freestyle, Andrew Hargis finished first for BC with a time of 4:54.49. Hargis and Marchini, along with Michael Fink and Casey Moehnke made up the 400-yard freestyle relay team that finished in first place with a time of 3:17.66.
Next up for BC is the third Western Conference Meet of the season at LA Pierce College on March 28.
TENNIS
The Bakersfield College men’s team played a double header against Reedley College and Foothill College on March 15. BC won its first match 9-0.
Number one player Tim Roe won 6-1, 6-1. Number two Victor Ikeda won 6-2, 6-3. Number three Samuel Ramirez won 6-4, 6-4. Number four Jesse Fonseca won 6-0, 7-6. Number five Luckian Campos won 6-3, 6-2, and number six Jimmy Moren won 6-4, 6-0.
Game two was a Renegades loss to Foothill College 2-7. Fonseca won his singles match 6-1 and 6-4, and Moren won his match 3-6, 6-4, 7-5.
On March 11, the Renegades lost 3-6 to Glendale College. Ikeda won 6-1, 4-6, 6-2 and Ramirez won 6-3, 6-7, 6-3. Roe and Ramirez won their doubles matches 8-5.
BC also lost 3-6 against Ventura College on March 4. BC lost all six singles matches, but won the three doubles.
The Renegades next home match will be March 25 against Ventura College.
CHEER TRYOUTS
Tryouts for the 2014-15 Bakersfield College cheer team will be held April 7-10. From April 7-9, participants meet from 4 p.m. to 6 p.m. at the Huddle. On April 10, they meet at 6 p.m. in the Dance Room.
Tryouts are open to graduating high school seniors and older. Current BC students must have a minimum of a 2.0 cumulative GPA, and high school students must have a 2.2. Participants must bring a copy of their transcripts to the clinic. Cheer or dance experience is helpful but not required.
